About Event

In the name of the International Day of Francophonie, we’re happy to offer you an entire day to celebrate Francophone culture with us. For this special occasion we have not only revamped Alliance’s compound by creating an “urban jungle” (amongst other things), but we’ve put together a fun and funky agenda. Join us for a whole day of Oulala! in effect…

On the menu:
9am: doors open, first croissants and other pastries from French bakery Pain d’Epices available
9am - 1pm: Chef Yohanis takes the lead in our kitchen with an unusual brunch, accompanied by live jazz manouche “Hot Club d’Addis”, all of it under our new pop-up veranda
In the afternoon, a mix of entertainment will be offered: kid corner, Dj set from Canadian Tinish & Tillik, poetic dialogue between violin and masinqo, walking percussions (Batucada) from students from Lycee Guebre-Mariam, show from Fekat Circus, Dj set from Ethiopian Records. የኢትዮጵያ, and more.

6.30pm: our feature concert, travelling all the way from Mauritania by way of international tour, the Psych Blues queen noura mint seymali and her group, in Ethiopia for the very first time.
Winner of the 2014 AFRIMA (All Africa Music Awards) for "Best Female Artist in North Africa," Noura Mint Seymali is a nationally beloved star and one of Mauritania's foremost musical emissaries, having begun her career, aged 13, as a supporting vocalist with her legendary step-mother Dimi Mint Abba. Reared in a culture of collision where sounds from across the Sahara, the Magreb and West Africa coalesce in the dynamic language of the Moorish griot, Noura’ now plays desert rock in a four-piece band dominated by the amplified “modified Moorish guitar” of her husband Jeiche Ould Chighaly.
